About

Hello, and welcome to my blog. Do I have to tell you that I like books? You probably suspected that already. Like most other book bloggers, I’ve always loved to read. My TBR list is continuously growing, but I try to feel undaunted by that fact. I am originally from Germany (Hallo, Deutschland!), but I now live in the mid-Atlantic region of th eU.S. As a mother of three with a full-time job, I don’t have quite as much time to read as I would like to have, but my books help me unwind at the end of the day. Well, sometimes, it’s in the middle of the night…

I read anything that sounds interesting, though you won’t find much fantasy, science fiction, or YA here. I prefer historical fiction, historical non-fiction, and classic literature. Some of my favorite books are Persuasion by Jane Austen, The House of the Spirits by Isabel Allende, The New York Trilogy by Paul Auster, Burial Rites by Hannah Kent, People of the Book by Geraldine Brooks, The Age of Innocence by Edith Wharton, and To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee.

I started this blog with the intent to read “strings” of book, picking a new book because it is mentioned in a previous one. But I can already see that this little experiment won’t work for me. There are too many books out there that I want to read. I will continue with my concept nevertheless, even if some strings will grow rather slowly. I think it will make me read books that I would otherwise not pick up.

If you would like to contact me, you may do so by sending an e-mail to: mybookstrings [at] gmail [dot] com.

  1. Hi! I am delighted to have discovered your blog. I look forward to spending more time here, and reading and discussing your blogs. πŸ™‚ Happy reading.

  2. I’m originally from the U.S. ( hello America!) and now living in The Netherlands, reading Dutch, English and French. I can follow German but not well enough to read a book.

      • My favortie classic writer is Simon Vestdijk. I read 2 books “Pastorale 1943” and “Terug naar Ina Damman”. I don’t think they are in translation..but perhaps another of his books is. (my reviews on these books are on the classic book list link at the end of the blogpost). Via link books 2013 and 2014 you can see the books by Dutch authors that I read + review. Some good…some bad! French? The book Op Zee bij A. Heijmans is excellent. It takes place along the Wadden islands of the coast of Friesland ( where I live!). This book won Prix de Medici Γ©trange in France and is translated “En Mer”. Or.. just start a book like Lettres de mon moulin by Alphonse Daudet,. They are short vingnettes about his beloved Provence. Dictionary, pen/paper or IPAD, coffee and a big dosis of determination!
