10 Books I Hope to Meet at BEA

Next week at this time, I’ll be heading into New York City to attend BEA. I haven’t been in the city by myself in a long time, so I am super happy. Contrary to what my boss believes, I will NOT skip out on the conferences I am supposed to attend to watch the Yankees play the Kansas City Royals. Nope, even though I am a baseball fan, the pinstripes have nothing on books. Since this week’s Top Ten Tuesday is a freebie, I’m giving you ten books that have caught my eye while browsing the BEA catalogs.

24796231The Story of My Teeth, Valeria Luiselligirlwithgun

Twain & Stanley Enter Paradise, Oscar Hijuelos

Girl Waits with Gun, Amy Stewart

Everything I Never Told You, Celeste Ng

23346733We That Are Left, Clare Clark kitchens

Incarnations, Susan Barker

The Secret Chord, Geraldine Brooks

Kitchens of the Great Midwest, J. Ryan Stradal

The Marriage of Opposites, Alice Hoffman

Diary of a Wimpy Kid #10, Jeff Kinney

    • Will you be at BEA for the entire event? I’m going only on Wednesday, when the floor is only open for half a day. But even though I feel unprepared after reading some posts about how to tackle BEA, it should be fun.

  1. Oooh… Geraldine Brooks has a new book coming out. But, even more exciting is your trip to BEA! I hope you get to see and do everything you want!

  2. I think I’m going to have to boycott the internet for the next couple of weeks. All these BEA posts are making me too jealous! Have fun though.

    • I completely understand. I’ll only be there for one day, and I have to attend some conferences, so I won’t have all that much time to just browse. But I’m determined to make the most of my limited time.

  3. I had to google BEA (book expo America?), but it sounds fun. Hope you have a great time. Valeria Luiselli’s a very interesting writer – have you read anything by her before? I loved her essay collection, Sidewalks, and an earlier novel, Faces in the Crowd. The new has piqued my interest too.

    • *waves* great list! I’m going to fight the crowds for Franzen’s Purity, and Under Major Domo Minor by Patrack deWitt. Also looking out for Elizabeth Gilbert’s Big Magic, Celeste Ng (why is that there? It’s been out for a while?) and Joyce Carol Oates’ memoir.

      • You are brave! I wondered about Celeste Ng as well, but I figured my chance of getting a copy are higher because it has been out for a while already. I’m trying really hard not to get too excited, since I’m only going to be there for a short time. Thanks for stopping by, and hope to meet you Wednesday!
